Fightin' Famine! Debbie's Trek To Fight Hunger

Voices 4 Nigeria (V4N) partner, Debbie Cohen (pictured), has embarked on a multi-month journey through North Carolina to raise funds for V4N’s Farming Grant Initiative project in Nigeria and Debbie & V4N invite you to join us in that effort. Debbie is trekking the 1,200-mile Mountain-to-Sea Trail which begins at Clingmans Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and ends at NC’s Outer Banks. The trail is renowned for its ruggedness and is currently even more difficult with clutter from recent storms.

V4N – partnering with Gabasawa Women & Children Empowerment Initiatives in Nigeria – is focused on bringing relief, aid, support, and economic empowerment opportunities to victims of terrorism in Nigeria. Through V4N’s life-sustaining Farming Grant Initiative project, over 700 widows & female farmers are being economically empowered to launch sustainable livelihoods in farming.

In the update we just received from Debbie, she said she has been “bushwhacking” through grasses and weeds taller than she is! She commented that Colorado trails are the best! God has provided 4 incredible people that she needed at just the right time—driving her to get a new tent when hers broke, providing a great place to stay when she was in Asheville, and others that lifted her spirits when she felt alone. She is moving onto the next 100-mile leg, heading to Mt Mitchell on the Blue Ridge Parkway. She anticipates it will take her until mid-Nov to complete the trail. Some of the people she has met are excited to donate to V4N as she relates why she is doing this.

As she hikes, Debbie is making a donation to V4N for the grant project with every 100 miles she completes and we ask that you prayerfully consider doing the same. Any and all donations are appreciated. Debbie is determined and will complete the entire 1,200-mile trail. Let’s encourage her by acting now! YOU CAN DONATE HERE!

Let’s join Debbie’s “support team” by praying for her safety, protection, and success in this worthy undertaking and consider contributing financially to this worthy cause as you’re able!

With gratitude for each of you,

Janet Wright
