“It’s a wonderful time of the year,” and it’s been a wonderful year for Voices4Nigeria! Just over a year ago, Voices4Nigeria (V4N) and Gabasawa launched a small Farming Grant initiative intended to provide economic empowerment opportunities to women impacted by terrorism and the broader humanitarian crisis in Nigeria. As the end of 2019 approaches, our initial group of 65 women farmers has increased to 201!
The women participating in the program have not only grown, but also harvested, packaged, and sold the fruit of their labor, and have gained the attention and respect of the Nigerian government! Our farms are known as “the most successful farming initiative” in Nigeria! This is an amazing testament given the resources and population of Nigeria – almost 200 million people! Thousands more women are waiting in the wings, praying for an opportunity to work.
The Farming Initiative has provided healthcare, trauma therapy, a sense of worth, purpose, and renewed hope. These women recognize that God “sees” them and is their faithful Provider, amid enormous suffering and loss. God’s love is transformative!
